SEPTEMBER 14: BE SOCIAL! Are peer playdates challenging for your child? Is your child experiencing difficulty establishing and maintaining friendships? Does your child play alone at school? Is your child a literal thinker? Can your child understand the perspective of others? While most children learn the skills of social thinking intuitively, many children have great difficulties with this process. Social thinking occurs 24/7 at home, at school and in the community. Attend this workshop to learn about a dynamic approach focusing on social learning. You will leave with strategies to help your child navigate the social world.
| APRIL 18: SOCIAL BEHAVIOR MAPPING This technique was developed by Michelle Garcia Winner. Children who exhibit social cognitive challenges have difficulty relating their actions to the consequences. (negative and positive) Using visual flow charts the child is able to visualize the concepts of expected and unexpected behavior This strategy teaches children about understanding the perspective of others and how their behavior impacts the thinking of others. At this workshop a variety of social mapping formats will be presented to use with children Pre-K through high school. Handouts will be provided to assist you in incorporating this technique at home.

FEBRUARY 21: WRITING SOCIAL STORIES Attend this workshop and learn the steps to creating social stories for your child. Carol Grey introduced the concept in 1991. A Social Story™ describes a situation, skill, or concept in terms of relevant social cues, perspectives, and common responses utilizing a specific format. This approach allows the child to gain an understanding of events and expectations that may result in more effective responses and/or behavior. This workshop will be hands-on and allow you to develop a story specific for your child.

Workshops will be presented by Susan M. Abrams M.A. CCC-SLP and Randi Rosenblatt M.A. CCC-SLP.
